| Terracotta
It’s the base of all ceramic tiles. It can be either manufactured
industrially or hand crafted.
In this case the clay is pressed by hand into molds of wood or iron
and then after a slow and accurate drying is cooked at a very high
temperature.
The color of the terracotta is different depending on the origin
of the clay.
The clay can be mixed according to the taste of the client.
Design
It is created with a technique called “dusting”, a piece
of paper which is perforated with needles by hand is placed on the
tile, powdered carbon is then passed over the paper to trace the
design on to the tiles.
Design Execution
This phase is used on both flat glazed tile and “relief on
terra cotta”.
“Relief on terra cotta” is the technique which sets
the production of Ceramica F.lli stingo apart from the rest. Trained
feminine hands have passed down the art of dripping the glaze from
long strange horse hair brushes which are made by the women themselves.
Coloring
This final step is made with thousands of kinds of brushes each
one giving its own personal trace or shade.
